How to effectively remove moisture from medical air, that is a thorny problem for most hospitals often encounter. air supply system of medical air center is life’s support system as a hospital, most of the foreign medical air standards have made clear provisions for medical air, and asked for its continuous monitoring. such as the United States NFPA99C indicates pressure dew point temperature should be below 0 ℃ in any state, the British HTM requires more strict——pressure dew point temperature should be -31 ℃. China's medical air currently haven’t standard, configuration of medical air equipment is uneven. most of the hospital medical air quality without person to check, so few hospitals can achieve the medical standards, while they can’t realize the economic losses and it harm to the patient due to the moisture of medical air lead to damage of hospital equipment. Many hospitals use oxygen, or use mobile& small air compressor drive ventilator, which solve the water problem, but it will increase the operating costs, and make the patient inevitably faced with noise hazards. in extreme cases, it may cause the patient to die. Thus, it is particularly important how to effectively remove moisture in the medical air.


Medical air dryer introduction

Air dyer is a key component to remove compressed air moisture, usually using two types: refrigeration type and adsorption type. refrigeration air dryer reduce the compressed air temperature by refrigeration principles——compressed air of containing water vapor is condensation and precipitation, and then use the separator to separate liquid water, and ultimately reduce pressure dew point temperature of the compressed air and absolute moisture content. the refrigeration dryer is usually composed of a heat ex-changer, a mechanical hydration separation device and an automatic drainage device. adsorption dryer use water absorption characteristics of adsorbent absorb compressed air moisture, then achieve drying effect.

Application comparison of two kinds of dryers

Refrigeration dryer condense moisture in the air into liquid water to achieve drying through heat exchange way, the minimum temperature can only reach +2 ℃ above ( the water will block pipeline due to freeze ice if much lower). Its dew point temperature can not reach medical standards below 0 ℃, the general pressure dew point is +2 ℃~ +10 ℃ above.

It is particularly important that the water molecules are saturated because gas-water separator can not be promptly excluded, so that the water in the gas-water separator is brought into the air, causing the dew point of the outlet pressure rise sharply when the amount of air used is very small, especially less than 20% (if only a small amount of ventilator is used), due to the small air flow. as the amount of air used gas is non-constant and larger changes in hospital, so it’s not suitable to use refrigeration dryer for general hospital compressed air system. while adsorption dryer can ensure that the dew point temperature is relatively stable and much lower than refrigeration dryer for the pressure dew point (industrial refrigeration dryer can reach below -80 ℃ ) due to the physical effect.

Commonly used dryer have twin towers adsorption dryer, module adsorption dryer and modular-units adsorption dryer. twin towers dryer and module dryer untight and uneven filling, affecting the drying effect in the second replacement of the adsorbent.

Modular-units adsorption dryer uses the latest modular-units adsorption technology, there is no need to replace the adsorbent on the site, just replace the modular-units to ensure the continuous drying effect, which completely solve the instability of pressure dew point, adsorbent become powder and other defects, and the energy consumption is very low. it almost the best choice to choose the modular-units adsorption dryer for medical air to dry.

Notes: the medical air is mainly used for patients , which is different from industrial air. the patient can not breathe too dry air, it also need re-humidified to the patient, so medical air does not need too low dew point, it’s OK to select the appropriate pressure dew point.
