Simple Analysis of Compressed Air System Components
The
compressed air system consists of the air supply end to the air use end as
follows: air compressor → gas storage tank → filter → dryer → gas pipeline → gas use port.
Compressed
air is produced by air compressors.
Compressor
- the air of atmospheric pressure is compressed and conveyed to the pneumatic
system at a higher pressure. This will turn the mechanical energy into air
pressure energy.
Motor
- it turns the electrical energy into mechanical energy, it can provide mechanical
energy to the compressor.
Pressure
switch – using the pressure inside the gas storage tank to control the motor,
it is adjusted to a maximum pressure; reaching this pressure to stop the motor,
it also be adjusted another minimum pressure, restarting the motor when the pressure
of gas storage tank fall down to this pressure.
One
way valve - allows compressed air into the gas storage tank from the compressor,
when the compressor is closed, preventing compressed air from flowing in the
opposite direction.
Gas storage
tank - store compressed air. Its size is determined by the capacity of compressor,
the larger volume of gas storage tank, the longer compressor running time
interval is.
Pressure
gauge - shows the pressure inside the gas storage tank.
Automatic
drainage valve- no manual operation, drain all water condensating in the gas
storage tank.
Safety
valve - The compressed air can be discharged when the pressure in the gas
storage tank exceeds the allowable limit.
Compressed
air dryer - dry the moisture of compressed air, it will bring great harm to the
pneumatic equipment due to contain water in compressed air.
Main
pipeline filter - In main piping, the main pipeline filter must have the
minimum pressure drop and oil mist separation capability. It removes dust,
moisture and oil from the pipeline.
